SUPPORTING ELT KNOWLEDGE PROMOTION
NATIONAL CONFERENCE
This year, ASOCOPI is delighted to celebrate the association’s 60th anniversary and hopes that all English teachers will join this special celebration. In a rapidly evolving global landscape, where language serves as both a tool for communication and a vehicle for empowerment, the 60th National and 6th International ASOCOPI Conference proudly presents its central theme: Linguistic Empowerment: Celebrating our Legacy, Envisioning our Future. At the heart of this theme lies a profound recognition of the transformative power embedded within language education. In an era marked by socio-political complexities and cultural diversity, linguistic proficiency not only facilitates access to opportunities but also amplifies voices, nurtures inclusivity, and fosters societal change. This transformative potential extends beyond the realm of language itself to encompass the evolving role of the teacher. As educators, we are tasked with embracing this shift and empowering our students to navigate and shape a world where language serves as a catalyst for positive transformation.

Professional development workshop: Nurturing and sharing local expertise and experience in English rural education.
This professional development workshop in the form of a two-day virtual workshop (16 hours) with synchronous and asynchronous participation of English teachers who share and systematize their experiences about teaching English in rural areas. It was offered exclusively to 50 elementary and high school teachers who teach English in the public sector in some regions in Colombia: the Caribbean and Pacific coasts, Andean, Orinoquia and Amazon regions. It is organized in partnership with Colombian scholars and teachers who have deepened their understanding of teaching English in rural areas. Through this professional development workshop, ASOCOPI continues its work to support English teachers and teaching in our country. ASOCOPI also intends to strengthen the Special Interest Groups: Interculturality, Social Justice, and English Language Teaching and Materials Development and Didactics to construct professional communities that care about the language we teach with social responsibility
